Tourist Information
The tourism department of Nevada, The Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), is responsible for promoting and marketing the state as a tourism and travel destination. Duties surrounding this role include editing, issuing and delivering publications that promote the state of Nevada. The governor employs an executive director who directs and supervises all tourism department procedures.
Duties of the tourism department include:
Coordinating, aiding and encouraging cooperation among public and private entities in tourism-promoting actions.
Promoting special events and attractions that allure visitors.
Developing and operating a marketing and advertising program for all domestic and international markets to attract more visitors and lengthen their time in Nevada.
Developing local programs that are unswerving with the state plan for advertising and marketing.
Providing and dispensing grants or matching grants to local entities and community organizations to promote tourism.
Preparing and delivering tourism brochures, guides and other promotional materials.
Compiling and circulating statistics and other marketing information.
Preparing and publishing Nevada Magazine to educate and promote.
Providing grants to develop publicly owned property, facilities and infrastructure that support and attract visitors.
The NCOT is the main department of tourism for Nevada but to give help and advice for tourists in and around the Strip, most of the Las Vegas hotels provide tourist information at their concierge and/or sightseeing/show desks.
