The Folies Bergeres
The Folies Bergeres
This is the one all guests come to see due to its famous name and immeasurable performances.
How the Show Starts
The scene starts in the showgirls’ dressing room where preparation is under way for the next show. Next, a butterfly showgirl materializes to the sounds of Janet Jackson's, "Escapade," representing future transformations of the showgirls.
The 19th Century
Taken back to the 1850s, the audience is surrounded by the wealth of the era where ball gowns, grandness and formal dances created a young lady. A graceful ballet dance is then performed transporting the audience through to a snowy, white forest.
The 20th Century
Colourful dancers bring the showgirls into the 20th century, the can-can era, when the high-kicking girls wowed the crowd with their high kicks. Further into the '20s and '30s, the women discard their corsets and dance their way into the glamorous world of Hollywood. Here the traditional feather-designed costumes worn by the dancers form rainbow-coloured images, as the dancers lie on the floor posing on a rotating stage. A tilted mirror provides the audience with a mirage of colours that are reflected from the dancers.
The 40’s and 50’s
Getting into the 1940s and 1950s, the dancers visit Club Tropicana where the music is boppin’. Here, on a background of black light and lit frames, the dancers tease the audience with a strip-tease, that appears invisible except for fluorescent clothes they slowly remove.
The Finale
The showgirls finish their journey by appearing in traditional costumes whilst displaying their full beauty then morphing into a more traditional yet modern showgirl, showing that like a butterfly going through metamorphosis, the showgirls have come a long way.
Here’s Wally!
Even though the show is based on the traditional feathers and sequins showgirls, there’s also a bit of humour and juggling from a Mr Wally Eastwood. Wally juggles balls with his mouth while dancing and telling jokes!
