The Mirage Hotel and Casino
BOOM! The noise is amazing with flames shooting 100 feet into the sky, way above the waterfalls below. Yes, it’s the Mirage Hotel and Casino, with its regular volcanic eruption, stopping people on the Strip to look and stare or give them a heart attack!
History
The Mirage was Steve Wynn's first venture and was built from scratch. Back in 1989, everyone thought the project would be a failure, but they were so wrong because as soon as the hotel opened, crowds nearly tore the place down trying to get inside, and The Mirage made its money back pretty quickly. The Mirage now proudly stands as the model upon which all recent hotels have been based.
Outside the Hotel
Visitors to The Mirage, with its 102 acres, will be pleasingly confronted with palm trees, beautiful cascading waterfalls, meandering lagoons and tropical flora and foliage, with the centre attraction being the $30 million erupting volcano. Instead of lava flow though, there is a really powerful light show.
Inside the Hotel
Just inside the resort's front entrance guests will be in awe at the lush rain forest and faintly tropical-perfumed air with the lobby being dominated by a 53-foot, 20,000-gallon simulated coral-reef aquarium stocked with more than 1,000 colourful tropical fish. If guests walk through the rainforest, they’ll reach a path that meanders through banana trees, palms, waterfalls, and serene pools, this path takes them through the casino to their luxurious rooms.
The Casino
The casino is done in a pleasant Polynesian theme, one of the nicest gaming areas in town and guests will feel quite at home here with its high ceilings, spacious room and varied casino games including Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Craps, Roulette, Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Let It Ride and Keno. Don’t forget to throw some money towards the 2,245 slot machines which include Megabucks and Super Megabucks.
The Mirage Rooms
Arriving at their rooms, guests will find a South Seas themed feel to the newly refurbished rooms, with lush fabrics and custom-designed artwork, marble entryways and baths, plush linen, ornate wardrobes, two lavish chairs and a desk. Fancy a TV fix? There are 25-inch televisions with pay-per-view movies and mini-bars for the thirsty guests. All the rooms also come with dual phone lines, irons and boards and in-room safes. Deluxe rooms have the same fixtures but with a Jacuzzi tub to soak up the suds in and separate shower stall. If any guests want rooms overlooking the volcano they should book as soon as possible as these rooms are very popular.
The Pool
At the rear of the hotel is the pool area, one of the prettiest in Vegas, a tropical paradise of waterfalls, trees and waterslides. The several pools at the complex are great for the kids, as they’re not too deep, so parents can sit back and relax without the worry. There’s even Jacuzzis to lounge around in till the skin goes crinkly!
The Spa
The Mirage Day Spa is full of courteous and helpful staff anxious to pamper guests with facials, massages, aromatherapy aids, body scrubs and many more skin cleansing treatments. There is also a fitness area, showers, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and herbal steam room, with refreshing juices and smoothies to cool the guests down afterwards!
Restaurants
With 14 restaurants why go anywhere else? Guests at the Mirage will usually find all that they need within the complex. It’s an international experience, from French to Mediterranean cuisine with Italian and New American flavours at Onda. Guests could also indulge in specially prepared Teppanyaki and traditional Japanese cuisine at Mikado. Enjoy beautifully prepared meals at The Mirage Buffet, California Pizza Kitchen, Caribe Café and The Noodle Kitchen complete the amazing international palette, offering casual dining options from every corner of the world.
Shopping
Guests can indulge themselves in a day of shopping where theres an exclusive collection of designer boutiques for women, featuring high-fashion leisure wear, fine formal wear, swim and resort clothing and the work of up and coming designers. Visitors should look out for the hotels own The Mirage Shop and The Mirage Collection.
The Animals
Behind the pool is the Dolphin Habitat and Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden, a large indoor habitat for Siegfried and Roy's white tigers and lions. The area is more of a conservation effort than a tourist spot and Siegfried & Roy have put a lot of commitment into helping animal preservation. The couple also have a Thai Elephant in the jungle sanctuary. Guests can also go to an underwater paradise where they’ll view a family of Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins as they play both above and below the water's surface.
