Roulette
Everyone’s heard of it, but not many of us know exactly how to play it! It’s an easy to understand and slow paced table game, great for the beginners.
Chips and Buying-In
The one difference between roulette and all other table games is that roulette chips have no value denomination printed on them. The roulette table comes with six to eight sets of different coloured chips, each set consisting of 300 chips. When a player buys-in they get their own colour and the value would be the buy-in divided by the number of chips received. The dealer will place a token on top of the dealer's stack of that colour of chips to indicate the value.
United States Rules
A U.S. roulette wheel consists of 38 numbered slots using numbers 1 to 36, a zero, and a double zero. The betting layout consists of every individual number as well as a host of "outside" or combinations of numbers. The dealer spins the roulette wheel and a ball at the same time, the players have to make a bet on where they think the ball will land after each spin. After several seconds the ball will eventually land in one of the numbered slots.
Why the Numbers Are Placed That Way…
The distribution of numbers were carefully arranged so that the total of the numbers for any particular section of the wheel would be approximately equivalent to any other section of equal size. Most numbers are part of a pair, with one number between them. These pairs add to either 37 or 39.
The Payouts
A bet on one number only, called a straight-up bet, pays 35 to 1. (The player collects 36. With no house advantage the player should collect 37 (38 in the USA on double zero roulette wheels).
A two-number bet, called split bet, pays 17 to 1.
A three-number bet, called street bet, pays 11 to 1.
A four-number bet, called corner bet, pays 8 to 1.
A six-number bet, pays 5 to 1.
A bet on the outside dozen or column, pays 2 to 1.
A bet on the outside even money bets, pays 1 to 1.
