Omaha
This variation of poker is both exhilarating and intense due to its advanced rules and more experienced competitors.
Dealing the Cards
Each player is dealt four hole cards (cards only the player is allowed to use when making a hand). Five community cards (cards everyone is allowed to use to make their hand) are then dealt face-up on the "board". All players use three of the five community cards together with two of their hole cards to make the best five-card poker hand.
Who’s the Dealer?
First of all the players need to know who the dealer is, this is done by a disc also known as "the button", which indicates which player is the supposed dealer for the present game.
Betting Begins
There are four betting rounds in Omaha:
· Before the game starts before the game, with the player immediately clockwise the button posting a "small blind", usually half a small bet (e.g. $2 in a $4/$8 game). The player immediately clockwise the small blind then posts the "big blind", which is always a full small bet (e.g. $4 in a $4/$8 game). Players now receive their four hole cards. Betting action begins around the table, starting with the player immediately clockwise the big blind.
· The "flop" is dealt face-up on the board. The flop is the first three community cards available to all active players. Betting begins with the active player immediately clockwise the button. All bets and raises occur in small bets (e.g. increments of $4 in a $4/$8 game).
· After betting is finished for the flop round, the "turn" is dealt face-up on the board. The turn is the fourth community card in an Omaha game. Betting starts with the active player immediately clockwise the button. On this round, betting doubles from the small bet to the big bet. In a $4/$8 game, betting on the turn is done in $8 increments.
· When betting is over for the turn round, the "river" is dealt face-up on the board. The river is the fifth and final community card in an Omaha game. Betting begins with the active player immediately clockwise the button.
If there is more than one remaining player when the final betting round is complete, the last bettor or raiser shows their cards. If there was no bet on the final round, the player immediately clockwise the button shows their cards. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot.
Omaha Rules
· In Omaha, players must only use two of their four hole cards in combination with three cards from the board.
· If at the end of the game, identical hands are shown, the pot will be equally divided.
To start a new game of Omaha, the button moves clockwise, for the next player to become the dealer.
