Baccarat

Easy as betting on the toss of a coin! Set out in the posh corner and played by the posh lot, mostly because the table minimums are high!

How Is It Set Up?

The regular baccarat table is about the size of a craps table, with 3 casino dealers and up to 12 or 14 players. There are two hands, the banker hand and the player hand. The cards come from the baccarat shoe, a box that contains 6 or 8 shuffled decks of cards. A player can make a baccarat bet on either hand or the tie between the two. Also, in Baccarat either hand can only have two or three cards per deal. When a Baccarat hand standsit’s, it means that the hand's part in the game is finished, a very important property of the game.

What Are the Cards Worth?

· Tens and face cards count as zero
· Ace in Baccarat is worth one point
· 2 to 9 are worth their face values in that order

Object of the Game

The object is to assemble a hand of two or three cards with a point’s value as close to nine as possible. The perfect hand is one that totals nine in the first two cards. Eight is the second-best hand and, along with the nine, it comprises the two "natural" hands. The only hand that will beat a natural eight is a natural nine. If any player hand or the Bank has a natural eight or nine, the others may not draw a third card. In a tie, bets are called off.

The Game Begins

The Baccarat dealer, deals two cards, to both Baccarat hands from the shoe. First the Baccarat player hand and then the banker hand must play out as follows:

Rules

· If the Baccarat player's first two cards total to less than six, the player must draw another (last card) from the shoe. The player then stands.

· If the first two cards of the banker, total to more than six, the banker must show his cards.

· If the initial score is 0, 1 or 2 the banker must draw the last card from the shoe.

· If it is 3 and the player's third card is 0 to 9 points, the banker draws the third card.

· If it is 4 and the player's third card is 2 to 7 points, the banker draws the third card.

· If it is 5 and the player's third card is 4 to 7 points, the banker draws the third card. Otherwise, the banker stands and the game ends.

· If both hands obtain an equal score, the game is called a tie and the tie bet wins. Otherwise the bet on the hand that receives a score closest to 9 wins. Bets are recovered.

· If the winning bet is the player or the banker, it recovers even money, i.e. the bet itself and a win that amounts to the bet. The tie bet in baccarat is paid 8 or 9 to one.
