The Wynn Collection of Fine Art
Housed within a museum-affluent location, with specially designed lighting, is the Wynn Collection of Fine Art. The paintings are displayed in a gallery within the Wynn Resorts building, a structure located on the grounds of the old Desert Inn hotel, which Steve Wynn purchased last year.
The Collection
The multimillion-dollar art gallery displays several works from Steve and Elaine Wynn’s personal art collection, which began six years ago, including artwork from the Bellagio Gallery, (within the now sold, Mirage Resort). There’s over a dozen American and European masterpieces within the collection, dating from the 19th and 20th century including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Vincent van Gogh, Edouard Manet and Paul Gaugin.
Other Paintings
Other masterpieces include Vincent van Gogh's "Peasant Woman Against a Background of Wheat" (1890), Henri Matisse's "Pineapple and Anemones" (1940), Paul Cézanne's "Curtain, Jug and Fruit Bowl" (1894), Pablo Picasso's 1932 painting "Le Reve (The Dream)”, Paul Gauguin’s 1902 painting "Portrait of a Woman" (1900) and Edouard Manet's "Portrait of Mademoiselle Suzette Lemaire, in Profile"(1880) and "Self Portrait" (1879).
Naming the Hotel
Wynn has named his new hotel and casino ‘Le Reve’, after Picasso's 1932 painting "Le Reve (The Dream)," The painting, which Wynn bought early in 2004, is a portrait of Picasso’s mistress, Marie-Therese Walter and although Steve won’t reveal its price to the media, its previous owner bought it four years ago at auction at Christie's in New York for $44 million!
The Owners Motives
Steve and Elaine Wynn always state that they are not the owners of the paintings, just the custodians, and their motives are to enrich the lives of Las Vegas visitors and children within the Las Vegas community.
