Star Trek: The Experience
Star Trek: The Experience at Las Vegas Hilton
Beam me up Scotty…the journey to the final frontier begins through a door leading to the History of the Future museum, here travellers will be shown the best bits of 30 decades of Star Trek TV series and films, while the various, infamous theme songs echo around them.
The Original Paraphernalia
The actual weaponry, props, masks, costumes and Klingon outfits are all here, as large as life. Gigantic models of the assorted starships, including "Next Generation's" colossal Enterprise D and a Klingon Bird of Prey, hang from the ceiling.
The Briefing
Carrying on to ‘The Main Bridge’ of the USS Enterprise D, voyagers are escorted to the holding area and briefed on the mission ahead. Next, a uniformed guide offers some standard simulator travel warnings and directs trekkers to watch monitors for more of the usual pre-boarding announcements.
The Journey Begins
All of a sudden, the monitors go blank, rays of light surround the riders, an unmistakable Star Trek transporter-room sound fills the air, and the room darkens for a moment. When the lights reappear, the room is transformed and the riders have been beamed aboard the USS Enterprise, i.e. the 24th century and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The Mission
An Enterprise officer greets the new time-travellers explaining that a gang of villains have sent Captain Picard back in time and has been replaced by the Vegas stowaways (the riders). The new voyagers’ mission is to get back to Vegas so that Captain Picard can return to the USS Enterprise and fulfil his journey of going where no man has gone before…
The Next Part of the Journey
From the bridge, travellers are taken to a turbolift - an elevator to the shuttle bays level. With the ship taking missile hits and frenzied communications from the bridge broadcast in the turbolift, the ride to the shuttle bays is fraught with imminent doom. Surviving the turbolift, the Enterprise officer leads the group through one of the Enterprise's corridors. The officer then gives shuttlecraft boarding and safety belt instructions and shuts the hatch to send the crew back on its journey to the 21st century.
The Simulators and Return to Vegas
The motion simulators are perfectly suited to imitate space travel, the right way to experience warp speed. The Star Trek simulator cabins have windows in front, above, and along their sides and use a domed screen to project an encompassing image. The simulator experience terminates with a risky, unstable ride down the Las Vegas Strip and a big thud above the Hilton.
The Gift Shop
An obligatory walk through the gift shop to buy some pointy ears finishes the journey and an experience that will stay with all trekkie lovers forever.
Further Information
To experience the ride, as well as the History of the Future museum, will cost $24.99. This is an all-day pass, however, and once you pay, you can go back as often as you like until closing time that day (hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily).
