Speed: The Ride At The Sahara Hotel
Ever wanted to know what its like to be a human catapult? Take a ride on Speed at The Sahara Hotel for the thrill of a lifetime. As you drive down the Strip, the huge blue ride, its 225-foot tower, and 72-foot loop come into view.
What Happens on the Ride?
Speed begins inside the NASCAR Café at the Sahara, where riders enter a launch site to take their seat on the coaster. By way of an electromagnetic force, to accelerate the coaster to top speeds, riders are catapulted off the launch area at 35 mph around an over banked curve, to plummet 224 feet through a hazy, mist-filled tunnel 25-feet below ground. Riders eventually career to the surface and through a 72-foot loop, accelerate to 70 mph in just 2 seconds and speed through the Sahara's marquee, to the top of a 224-foot tower only to hurtle back down it again.
Going Backwards!
The passengers are then taken back the same way in reverse…the train thrusts upwards and the ground becomes further away. Before long, all sight is lost of the ground as riders round the top of the loop. Pulling out of it, the passengers plummet 72 feet down the other side.
Light disappears, and turns into mist. The light eventually returns as the coaster flies out of the tunnel. The train goes around the over banked turn once more then the hum of the brakes are heard, as the coaster comes to an end.
The Surprise
Although you can see the ride's first twist, passengers never know what to expect from that point on. The sprays of mist and vision-impeding safety harnesses also add to the surprise element.
Riding at the front of the coaster will give the bravest the biggest thrill and though its only 45 seconds long it’s definitely worth the wait.
