Outer Places of Interest
Had enough of the mayhem in Las Vegas? Even though many people come to the United States with definite intentions of visiting Las Vegas, most visitors will take off to other places outside of the city. Visitors usually plan for extra days while away to ensure time is on their side and Las Vegas is the ideal starting point for many an adventure. In Nevada alone, they’re are nearly a dozen State and National Parks with oodles of fun, educational, entertaining and captivating side trips along the way for the whole family.
Las Vegas' centralised location makes it the stepping-stone from which to visit places such as Lake Mohave, a popular destination for those interested in water recreation. There is camping, swimming, fishing, house boating, water-skiing and much more. Most of the activities are enjoyed from Katherine Landing, near the Davis dam. At the foot of Davis Dam are the cities of Laughlin and Bullhead City. Laughlin provides all the fun that Las Vegas provides, except it is perfectly placed on the river and by the lake.
Other really beautiful and interesting areas around Lake Mohave include Lake Havasu City, Needles and Cottonwood Cove. Lake Havasu City is a water-lovers dream and favourite vacation getaway for residents and its visitors. Offering spectacular beaches and an amazing amount of water activities including boating, water-skiing, houseboat vacations, fishing, kayaking and many more. Many visitors also love to explore the lake while on hiking trails. The resort of Cottonwood Cove is relatively unknown, far removed from the big casinos and hotels of Las Vegas, this resort is for visitors who prefer a more peaceful and clean recreational area.
Another great area to visit is Lake Mead, which is twice the size of Rhode Island with 550 miles of craggy shoreline. Lake Mead extends into Arizona and the surrounding desert area abounds with spectacular canyons and jagged mountains. There are also lots of sheltered coves for peaceful boating and fishing and absolutely loads of water activities situated on the lake. Places of interest within Lake Mead include Mesquite Lake, Overton Beach and Echo Bay.
Overton Beach is an area that has fewer visitations due to its distance from Las Vegas, great for visitors who decide to travel the stretch to get there. The main facilities at Overton include a launch ramp, swimming beach, a trailer village and a camping area. As it’s further from Las Vegas, Echo Bay tends to be less crowded, so people can go and visit the place at the weekend. Boat rentals and cruises are quite popular, due to the waters of Lake Mead tending to be calmer at Echo Bay.
Other places most visitors will visit include Boulder City, Henderson and Indian Springs. Boulder City an area whose proximity to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area makes it an excellent gateway to the largest, cleanest reservoir in the US, offering endless camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking, biking and photography experiences. Henderson is another place of growing interest and is becoming more and more of a golfing destination.
Some of the areas are only a day's drive away, so visitors can even return to the Strip in time to take in an evening show and dinner.
