The Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings
An old-time saloon in Goodsprings, located 35 miles south of Vegas, was built in 1913 and is known for many a gunfight, of which many bullet holes can be seen today. It's also known for its patterned tin exterior and interior walls, some resembling bricks. The Pioneer may be the nation's oldest stamped-metal building still standing. There still resides inside, the original poker tables, an old potbelly stove and an 1860s cherrywood bar. On a back wall, newspaper clippings record the crash in 1942 of the DC-3 that killed actress Carole Lombard at nearby Mount Potosi. Her husband, screen legend Clark Gable, waited at the Pioneer for word from the search crews.
