Manhattan Express at New York New York

Fancy a cab ride that’s a bit on the wild side? On the second floor of the $460 million New York New York hotel is the first hyper-twister coaster in America and also the world's tallest steel looping ride, The Manhattan Express. A 4-car, 16-passenger taxicab-themed train ride that hits 203’ heights, drops 15 stories and reaches speeds of 67 mph.

The Ride Begins

As soon as the riders are seated, partial, over-the-shoulder restraints are pulled down and the train departs from the hotel to commence the chain lift to 20-story heights. At the top, the track levels, enabling riders to take in a panoramic view of Las Vegas, then a curve to the left moves the train to its first 75 foot drop with screams from the riders, as the train begins its speedy descent. A second climb takes the ride up over 15 stories, the drop this time is the coasters largest, at 144 feet in depth riders are left screaming for their lives, as they are swooped downwards at 67mph. The dazed riders are carried up another hill swerving to the left, then plunge down to the bottom of another drop to the left completing a half-circuit around the hotel.

The Loop

Facing the hotel building, riders enter the first inversion, a rapid loop, twisting and turning the passengers towards the Spin 'N' Dive, a climb up to a height of 86 feet, where the red track spirals cars around the beginning portion of the inversion, a half-heartline Roll, which leads them doubling down and under 180 degrees through a half-loop. From there, Manhattan Express climbs into a mid-course braking section, but gets underway once more with a 180-degree U-turn around the back of the track for the third drop. After another straight drop, the train hops over a Camelback Hill, second 180-degree turn, and a speed hop to eject riders from their seats momentarily! The track banks to the left and begins a final upwards 540-degree double helix and straightaway into a drop. The coaster finally re-enters the hotel via a downwards angled brake-run, to the loading station, where the shaken up, dishevelled travellers can disembark!

Further Information

Located on the Strip, second floor of the New York New York Hotel at 3790 Las Vegas Blvd South. The roller coaster ride costs $10 and is open daily 10am-11pm (weather permitting).
