Jubilee Backstage Walking Tour
Jubilee All Access Backstage Walking Tour
The image of a Vegas showgirl has been as tantamount with the town as the name itself. Visitors and locals alike flock to shows like Jubilee! each year and by the end of the show the audience is left both spellbound and bewildered with what they have seen.
Audiences’ Questions
Due to this bewilderment many people are keen to know what really goes on behind the scenes of a Jubilee! show, with questions like:
What goes on behind the curtain while the audience waits patiently for the show to begin?
What does it take to make a show of that magnitude run so smoothly night after night?
How do they change costumes and sets so quickly?
Las Vegas' longest running showgirl production offers the opportunity to have those questions and many more answered once and for all at the Jubilee! All Access Backstage Walking Tour.
Behind The Scenes
The hour-long tour starts with a brief history of showgirls, stage extravaganzas and the Jubilee! Show itself. See the size and the mechanics of the stage, which is one of the biggest and most technically complex in the USA, comprising of two wagons, three lifts and two revolves.
Showgirl Showdowns
A Jubilee! showgirl talks about the everyday confrontations of being on stage, like catching your shoe between the lifts, getting caught up in costumes and the many constraints of working in a live show. For example, the girls only have a couple of minutes to make it downstairs to the dressing rooms, change their costumes, their shoes and their hair before heading back up to the stage to perform their next scene. Showgirls, often wearing headdresses that weigh up to 35 lbs, make an average of 10 trips on two flights of stairs per show.
The Dressing Rooms
The tour then leads the visitors to the various dressing rooms and a look at the elaborate costumes worn by the Jubilee! showgirls. The outfits are made of feathers, crystals, sequins and luxurious fabrics and are the very same costumes that were worn by Jubilee! showgirls nearly 30 years ago. One important part of a showgirls job is to take great care of their costumes.
A New Enthusiasm
Realising the amount of work that goes into a production like Jubilee! enthuses an all new respect for the show and its performers and deepens rather than dampens the fascination with showgirls and Las Vegas productions.
