The Houdini Museum
The Houdini Museum at The Venetian
A marvel in his own right, America's first great magician…Harry Houdini, born Erich Weiss in Budapest in 1874, was the vaudeville-era escape artist and daredevil of his time.
About the Museum
In June 2000, in the Grand Canal Shops of the Venetian Resort Hotel, the Houdini museum opened, in commemoration of the most well known conjurer of all time, Harry Houdini. Holding the world’s largest collection of Houdini memorabilia, the museum has taken more than three years of research and 40 years of collecting, to bring the exhibition to fruition.
The Collection
Sidney Radner, Curator of the Museum, is the Honorary Curator of the Houdini Historical Society in Appleton, Wisconsin, and owner of the biggest collection of Houdini memorabilia in the world. Some of the most interesting items within the collection include his straight jacket, his famous Pillory Escape, handcuffs, keys, handwritten letters to family and friends, placards, photos, posters and an original water torture device.
Houdini’s Career
Houdini performed illusions and escapes throughout Europe, the United States, Russia and Australia, amazement's that made Houdini the highest paid variety artist of his time. Houdini was also an author, aviator, filmmaker, fight fan, book collector and quite an inventor, with the museum holding Houdini's patent for the first deep-sea diver suit. The museum also has film reels running, highlighting the master of escapisms’ varied career, tracing his progression with a spotlight on amazing stunts including making an elephant disappear at New York's Hippodrome Theatre and jumping between biplanes.

Houdini's Museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., is situated on the second level of the Grand Canal Shops at the Venetian Resort and costs $2.00.
