The Guggenheim Hermitage Museum
It’s a masterpiece extravaganza. The Guggenheim Hermitage Museum at The Venetian is one of the most appreciated museums in the international art community.
How It Got Together
Russia’s famous Hermitage Museum, based in St. Petersburg made history in 2000 when it joined forces with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York. The effect was the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum at the Venetian, whose gallery houses remarkable Russian artefacts and masterpieces that have travelled the world over.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions change approximately twice a year. The current 2004 exhibition is "A Century Painting: From Renoir to Rothko", tracing the evolution of modern art, beginning with Impressionism and continuing on through Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism. During this period, artists made a radical exit from conventional painting techniques through the use of broken brushstrokes, modern-life subject matter and vibrant colour, ultimately developing new visual languages for the next century.
The Originals
The exhibit also features original paintings by Matisse, Cézanne, Chagall, Gauguin, Picasso, Kokoschka, Monet, Pollock, Renoir, Rothko, Van Gogh, and others.
