Gondola Ride at The Venetian
Gondola Ride at The Venetian
Imagine being in a gondola passing beneath the Bridge of Sighs as the setting sun turns the palazzi of the Grand Canal all golden pink.
The Boats
Well, the gondola ride at The Venetian is a pretty good second best. So popular with the tourists that the ride sells out every day. There are at present six boats in operation, which are modelled after Venetian gondolas. The main difference is in the boat's measurements, at 26 feet long by 5 feet wide (compared to 36 feet long by 4 feet wide), which allow for easier navigation down the Grand Canal.
The Gondoliers
The half-mile smooth ride starts at St Mark’s Square and the gondoliers are full of information about Italy and will even sing if asked. An early arrival is a must as tickets sell-out quickly.
The Ride
The ride averages an hour wait and only cash is accepted. The gondola seats four people, parties of two or less must share with another party or pay for a private ride. The gondolier then takes the travellers down the realistic Grand Canal, for a relaxing and romantic ride, which lasts 8-10 minutes. Rides operate every 15 minutes throughout the day. Private gondolas can be requested, at $60 for the indoor gondola ride and $50 for the outdoor gondola ride.
