Flyaway Indoor Skydiving
Flyaway Indoor Skydiving
Fly like a bird and feel the wind beneath you…break the bonds of gravity and body fly.
What Is It?
At Flyaway Indoor Skydiving, America's first vertical wind tunnel, visitors can actually get to skydive indoors whilst experiencing the exact feeling skydivers get when falling through the sky at an exceptional speed. Indoor Skydiving gives you the chance to test your skills of human flight during a single flight session or as a participant in a personalized coaching program. Indoor Skydiving is a popular training resource for sport skydivers, competition teams and military units. No experience is necessary and new skydivers will be taught all they need to know to body fly indoors.
How It Works
Before commencing the indoor skydiving, a 20 minute briefing on the most effective crash position is essential, to avoid any injuries. Dressed in oversized flight suits, goggles, elbow pads, ear plugs and helmets, five fresh-faced skydivers then enter into a 12-foot-wide, 22-foot-high padded, blue decagonal tunnel. The divers are told to relax as much as possible and are reminded to tuck and roll, a movement practiced in their briefing, in case of crash landings. Each flyer takes it in turn to walk onto a netting and lie face down, a DC-3 propeller at the base of the wind tunnel then generates winds up to 120 mph lifting the skydiver 7 feet in the air for 3 minutes. After each diver has experienced the lift they all take turns, for 15 minutes, diving into the wind from the tunnel's side cushions, floating on its force.
Who Goes?
Customers are served on a walk-in basis only. A frequent flyer program offers discount rates for flights. Any age group can take part in Indoor Skydiving and since George Bush skydived at the facility, more and more seniors have been having a go. It is an attraction that draws over 30,000 curious locals and tourists each year, including experienced skydivers who use the wind tunnel for practice.
